The history of The Original Factory Shop

TOFS was founded in 1969 by the Black family, selling soap manufactured by one of the family’s factories. Business continued up until 1988 when the Black family sold their venture. However, the brand just continued flourishing, especially with the opening of more outlet stores around the UK.

Cut to 2004, when Barclays purchased 70% stake in the company (the same year that Duke Street bought TOFS). This resulted in a major re-branding of all stores, and public demand meant more shops had to open. Like in 2009 when 35 Woolworths stores were transformed into new TOFS shops.

The very next year, TOFS launched its online store, opening a new world for shoppers seeking to buy menswear accessories, ladies’ jeans, kids’ pyjamas, and more without leaving home.
