About JYSK

The JYSK Group (with ‘jysk’ meaning “jutlandic”) is made up of three entities:
• JYSK Nordic: operates JYSK stores in 20 countries including Scandinavia, East- and Central Europe.
• DÄNISCHES BETTENLAGER: controls stores in certain European countries like Germany, Switzerland, France, etc.
• JYSK Franchise: currently present in 25 countries, JYSK Franchise allows a certain number of franchises internationally to join the JYSK family.

The history of JYSK

Lars Larsen opened the first Jysk Sengetøjslager in Aarhus, Denmark in April 1979. And thanks to successful operations, Dänisches Bettenlager opened the first German store in Flensborg in 1984. With more and more customers going mad for the brand, the JYSK Franchise branched out to Iceland in 1987. That same year, Lars Larsen was among the first Danes to appear in TV commercials, resulting in even more business success for JYSK.

In 1998, JYSK celebrated its 500th store. And in the spirit of consistency, Danish, Swedish and Finnish stores changed their names from Jysk Sengetøjslager, Jysk Bäddlager and Jysk Vuodevarasto to simply JYSK in 2001.

In 2008, the JYSK brand finally reached the UK with the opening of stores in Lincoln and Mansfield. Cut to 2021, when JYSK open its 3000th store (in Fiumicino, Italy). Today, the brand still continues its successful day-to-day operations, no matter if it’s launching new living room sofas, garden furniture, or clever storage options.
