About Dunelm

Ever since Dunelm was first founded in 1979, its purpose has been to help everyone create a home they love. Today, more than 40 years later, the brand has gone from strength to strength to continue providing first-rate homeware products to the UK, whether it’s via one of its hundreds of retail stores, Dunelm’s successful website aimed at online purchases, or thanks to its updated online catalogues detailing the brand’s best promotions, weekly sales, and more.

The history of Dunelm

Dunelm was founded by husband and wife Bill and Jeany Adderley, who started the business as a simple little market stall, back in 1979 in Leicester, to sell a wide range of home textiles at pocket-friendly prices. Within a month they had made a 600% profit, signalling to the couple that they were on to something big. Fast-forward five years later to the first official Dunelm store built in Church Gate, Leicester, which only boosted the brand’s already successful existence.

With Bill and Jeany’s son Will finally joining the team in 1996 (as the new MD), Dunelm continued growing and expanding, including opening a new head office and warehouse in Syston (in 1999).

2001 saw Dunelm purchase Bellbird Ltd, a small curtain-manufacturing business, to produce custom-made curtains, blinds and other homeware accessories like cushions and bedding.

And thanks to the Dunelm website (which went live in 2005 and enjoyed a re-launch in 2019), more and more customers have realised the value and convenience of online shopping and deliveries.
