The history of Evans
Evans, the leading fashion retailer for plus-size women wearing sizes 14 – 28, was founded in 1930 by Jack Green, a manufacturer. After 40 years of successfully selling clothes and fashion accessories as a limited company to women, Evans was acquired by the Arcadia Group and transformed into a public company.
In 1972, the business (which had expanded to more than 77 stores nationwide) got a major boost with the introduction of mail order purchases. And in 1994, the first Evans product brochure (consisting of only 12 pages) was featured in Good Housekeeping- and Prima magazines to further advertise the brand’s enticing collection of clothes, shoes, dresses, and other fashionables meant for women above a UK size 14.
As time and technology advanced, so did Evans. In 1997, the company not only launched SeVen (a more fashion-led label geared towards younger shoppers), but also became the first Arcadia brand to start selling online.
In 2011, Evans launched in USA and kick-started delivery services to more than 100 countries worldwide. Today, the brand is just as committed to providing boutique clothes and first-rate service to its growing collection of customers as it was back in 1930.
