The history of Morrisons

Morrisons started off as a simple egg-and-butter business, founded by William Morrison in Rawson Market, Bradford, in 1899. In 1952, William’s son Sir Ken (aged only 21) took over the small group of market stalls his father had started. But it would only be in 1958 that the first Morrisons shop would open, the only one in Bradford with prices on its products and which offered self-service.

In 1967, the successful Morrisons brand was listed on the London Stock Exchange and in 1999, the brand opened its 100th store (in Nelson). The popular children’s clothing range Nutmeg was introduced in the store in 2013, and 2014 saw Morrisons launch its online food delivery service, beautifully boosting the brand’s sales and reputation.
