Poundstretcher, all the offers at your fingertips

Founded in 1981, Poundstretcher (which is based in Desford, Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire) provides discounts ranging from 49p up to £150 on a rich range of products intended for in and around the home.

    About Poundstretcher

In addition to kids' clothing, drinks and other products, Poundstretcher also commits to its “Pet Hut” section, where you can buy first-rate pet goodies (from dog beds and cats' scratching posts to bird feeders and more). And rest assured that even here Poundstretcher doesn’t compromise on quality in any way, ensuring you get to pick and choose from leading brands at the lowest prices.

    The history of Poundstretcher

Paul Appell and Stephen Fearnley deserve credit for establishing Poundstretcher in 1981. At first it was a subsidiary of Brown & Jackson, a construction firm.

Cut to 1995 when Pepkor, the biggest retailer in South Africa, bought a controlling stake in Brown & Jackson and refinanced it. After purchasing more stores, Brown & Jackson expanded quickly and, in 2000, opened 6 more stores in Poland.

A big restructuring happened in 2002 when the board disposed of all trading subsidiaries excluding Poundstretcher. The following year, a rebranding changed the company name (and more and more Poundstretcher stores) to Instore. But after realising the rebranding was not successful, all new stores opening from June 2009 were labelled as Poundstretcher (Instore was gradually bought over by the Crown Crest Group). The brand continued to impress clients with its rich range of products (from cleaning products and frozen meals to garden décor and homeware), which makes sense why the group celebrated its 400th store in the UK in 2012.

That same year, Poundstretcher acquired 20 UGO chain stores which were placed in administration. After 14 were closed, the remaining 6 most profitable shops stayed as part of the group.

Today, Poundstretcher still ensures an enticing range of offers, products, and top-quality service thanks to its slew of branches scattered across the UK.
