Leeds: Tourism, shopping and much more!

Known as the biggest city in the county of West Yorkshire, UK, Leeds successfully went from a small manorial borough in the 13th century to a popular urban centre by the mid-20th century. After absorbing many of its surrounding villages to become more prominent, Leeds officially became a city in 1893.

Travelling from Leeds to London will take you in a southern direction for about 4.5 hours. And since the city is located at the foothills of the Pennines (which influences its climate), Leeds enjoys an oceanic climate marked by mild summers (with moderate rainfall) and cold winters with occasional frost and snow.

In terms of tourist attractions, Leeds knows how to cater for the whole family. Like Roundhay Park, one of Europe’s biggest parks (with over 700 acres of rolling parkland) where locals and visitors flock to when the weather is nice. Or the Royal Armouries Museum, home to what’s regarded as the biggest collection of arms and armoury in the UK (it boasts over 8,500 armoury and weaponry objects).

However, if parks, museums and art galleries aren’t your thing, perhaps try one of Leeds’ various shopping centres.

Leeds: Map for shopping

Thanks to Leeds’ commitment to serious shopping, you don’t need to return to London to do some retail therapy.

Why not see what Victoria Gate has to offer? Located at the heart of the city’s shopping area, Victoria Gate forms one half of Victoria Leeds (the other half being Victoria Quarter). And with over 800 parking spaces, along with popular brands like Calvin Klein, Hair Plus and Vivienne Westwood, you’re sure to give your credit card a proper workout.

For some south-side shopping, we recommend Crown Point, which is actually the closest retail park to Leeds’ city centre. Drop by and see what specials and/or discounts you might score from well-known stores like Pets at Home, TK Maxx and ASDA Living.

Over at Trinity Leeds, you’ll be greeted by 120+ national and international brands (including Decathlon, The Alchemist, Mango and more) under one gigantic roof. Throw in over 40 well-known restaurants, bars and eateries, and it’s no wonder that Trinity Leeds is becoming one of the city’s most happening shopping spots.

Speaking of 120 stores, that’s also how many you’ll enjoy at White Rose in South Leeds. From Argos and Bagel Factory to Glamour Forever, which shops and brands are you planning on visiting first?

Finally, The Merrion Centre over in Arena Quarter has been at it since 1964 and is still regarded as one of Leeds’ most interesting and diverse shopping locations. Makes perfect sense thanks to its high-profile brands like Frankster's, Elite Pro Sports and Iceland, as well as the centre’s numerous exciting promotions and events, like its annual Christmas market.
