The history of The Perfume Shop
The idea behind The Perfume Shop was simple: to sell luxury perfume brands at affordable prices and make them accessible to everyone. And the first stores, which opened in 1992 in Birmingham, Belfast and Milton Keynes, did just that. Impressed by the stores’ collection of men’s and womens perfumes, plus the staff’s incredible knowledge and service, The Perfume Shop (which was originally called EauZone) struck gold.
Bought over by Merchant Retail Group, EauZone became The Perfume Shop and opened more stores across the UK. What helped them stand out was that each store traded from smaller shops than other retailers, with the average only being 400 square feet.
In 2005, the brand was acquired by A.S. Watson Group, the world’s largest health- and beauty retailer. 5 years later, it introduced the shop-in-a-shop concept by operating Perfume Shop outlets at various Superdrug stores.
In 2011, the loyalty card scheme, ‘Rewards Club’, was finally launched, introducing an exciting new way for Perfume Shop clients to not only shop more online, but also enjoy extra benefits.
