The history of Boots

Even from the first days of existence, the Boots brand was already a family business. It was first established by John Boot in 1849 in Nottingham. With his fathers passing in 1860, 10-year old Jesse Boot stepped in and helped his mother operate their herbal medicine shop which, in 1883, was incorporated as Boot and Co. Ltd.

The Boots brand received a considerable reputation boost in the 1960s thanks to the company branching out into the research and manufacturing of drugs, particularly the Ibuprofen painkiller. And as more time passed, the Boots brand just kept growing, eventually forming Boots Opticians Ltd in 1987.

Today, thanks to Boots’ supreme combination of healthcare experts (including pharmacists, opticians, etc.) paired with first-rate pharmacy services (including online shopping and delivery), the company remains a true and trusted healthcare brand.
